WEIMAR, GERMANY - Partner university code: D WEIMAR01

The Bauhaus-University Weimar has an history which starts in the nineteenth century, today the university still adheres to the basic principles of the Bauhaus State, founded by Walter Gropius in 1919. Experts from various disciplines and countries have worked here together with their students to revolutionize education leaving a permanent mark on design through modern art, technology and science. Today it has evolved into an international university in the unique and cultural city of Weimar, one of Germany's major cultural centers and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar defines itself as a ¿vibrant institution, not a museum¿ emphasizing its willingness to continue to evolve in order to answer central questions concerning art and culture, technology, science and society through modern methods. This also includes the critical analysis of the history of the Bauhaus and its historical impact, which is part of the contradictory history of progress begun almost 100 years ago. In order to meet these requirements it is divided into four faculties: architecture and urban planning, civil engineering, art and design and media. Experimentation and excellence prevail in all these faculties in which projects and interdisciplinary collaborations in research and education are also conducted. In a national university ranking, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar achieved high scores in the categories of general studies, organization of studies, teacher supervision, activity, internationalization and acquisition of the degree in a reasonable period of time. According to the "QS World University Ranking" system, the Bauhaus-University Weimar is among the top 150 universities in the world in the department of art and design.
